Unhappy axis A longboards

I`ve a question about the axis A longboards, I have tried the settings like derrek roddy and george kollias. But the control of the longboards is verry hard!!! Before the longboards i`ll played the x shotboards and i always thought that i need more springtension on the shortboards! now i have more tension and less controll...............help me!? i have tried al kinds of beaters( now i`m using the wooden beater from danmar. There`s more control but less speed!!!! I NEED SPEED!

George is asome!!! Maybe you can answer this, anyone?

This is a phenomenon which occurs with every pedal, as soon as you increase the spring tension. a higher spring tension ALWAYS means less control.

It is VERY important to keep your balance while playing doublebass, otherwise there is no way you can gain control. So keep an eye on your seat height and seat distance to the drumkit. Make sure everything feels comfortable when you sit down and start playing.

Once you have maintained that, try doing some control exercises... keep an eye on what exactly your feet are doing... I guess your strong foot has WAY more control than your weak one...

as control exercises I would suggest that you just do the roddy exercises from fast to slow...

it is very important to be able to control your pedals at ANY temp you wish to play..

so start of at let's say 140 bpm doing 8th notes:

rrrr llll
rrrrrrrr llllllll
rrrrrrrrrrrr llllllllllll
rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr llllllllllllllll

keep an eye on what each foot is doing different to the other, then apply the motion of your stronger foot, i.e. the foot with more control to your weaker foot.

And keep it going for a while, I can understand how you feel, gaining control using a high spring tensin is a HUGE pain in the ass.

Hey man,
the more you tighting up the spring, the less control you get.First you gotta get used to the new spring tension,i guess sometimes it hurts your feet but it's just a matter of a few weeks.
If you wanna improove your control take a look on the Stick Control book. You can play the first 1-2 pages with a beat on the top.
(always with click and NOT fast)
-Start by practicing each only with feet and repeat 10-20 times.
-Add the beat on the top.
-Play each page in a row (for example,4 bars each exercise) and move to the end.
-Add a music feel (play 3 bars and make a fill at the 4th,then move to the other with crash, like you play a song)
-Play the whole page backwards.
-Play the whole page mixed
-Play each exersize and go up and down to the tempo.
These are just some simple you can do,try them out it's fun!

Remember, play at a slow tempo (80-100bpm).Clean your strokes before you start moving up to the tempo...Good luck,

george
