Beaters and click pads

Hey Kollias, hope the new albums going good.

I wanted to know in your experience what you think about beaters, click pads and how they effect the responce of the bass drum.

I know some drummers play with smaller bass drums so the beater bounces back quicker but I woundered;

1. Do click pads take away from this bounce?

2. I know you like the rubber cobra beaters but do you think they bounce back quicker then wooden beaters or no difference?

Thanks

Beaters are something that takes experimentation. I'm currently using Danmar felts and I'm curious to try out the IC Rubbers (box of rubbers...haha) and the Pearl Quad beaters.

Derek says he uses the Danmar felts because they rebound better and his kicks will SOUND like bassdrums..

AFAIK George has been using IC rubber beaters for years now. Don't know if hes said anything about feel.

i have the pearl 4 way beaters and ive just bought some sonic hammers, ive played on IC's but since it wasnt my pedals i couldnt tell how much they changed the feel. ive got some good balancing ideas for the hammers but havent had time to mess with them yet. im hoping to maximize rebound and hopefulyl the tight springs will help too.

Bigtruck you got a picture of that beater you use? there's many on the site and they all look so strange, I'm not sure what one is what.

Guyome, I can't imagen the quad beaters being very light/agile, I want to get either IC rubbers or the wooden ones.

i currently use the pearl quad beaters. they're actually not that heavy. i once borrowed the IC plastic beaters and they're only slightly lighter.

the sonic hammer are still the heaviest i've tried. at least they feel the heaviest to me.

if my pearl quads are worn out i'll go for the IC rubbers.

OK, I've tried Pearl quads, Sonic Hammers, Marksmans, DW dual-sided and IC rubbers, and have settled on the IC. Light, but the counterweight gives them the necessary force. That's especially important with Axis; high string tension with light beater heads (like Marksman) just feels bad to me.
