That's a good thing to do,i did (and still do) the same.I was playing along my favourite albums for hours and hours everyday, trying to kep up the song,i use to challenge myself with different drummers, different fills and not so much with speed.I think it's not so hard and so "good" to focus on speed,i think it's much better to copy fills from your favourite songs and have them in your pocket to use them whenever you want.Ideas are coming by listening other drummers, taking THEIR ideas and bring them IN YOUR PLAYING,developing your skills and your abbilities to play/follow/orchestrate.There isn't any drummer in this world that he became great by playing alone and listening to his drumming only.
Listen to other drummers, try to get stuff from them, listen ALOT of music and play along with your favourite songs.Find a band to lead the dance, that's YOUR and ANYBODY'S goal........
