I found that you have a lot of power in your ankles and I would like to ask you if did some exercises to build the POwer of you ankles...
It's amazing to hear the SOUND that you have George...finally someone that can play drums even if the sound module is off!
Keep up the great work!!!

Hey Raph,what's going on man?
I never had some training for my legs, just play drums. What i do and really brings some results with the "power" thing is what i'm teaching and what i've been saying all the time:Get some beater motion....I know it's hard when you play fast but everybody can do it.
That's the ONLY way to get some real power when you're up to the crazy tempos,so you don't need training, just technique and get familiar with your pedals.I believe that my pedals (tight springs for ever) maybe help a little my muschles but i guarantee you has nothing to do with how hard you hit the kicks.
I can't see the video right now,i believe it's from Holland right?Wait for some much better ones soon,i'm still editing the shit-when i'm free...
George

good post here, if i may just add something real quick, try playing heel down, not fast just single strokes. dont try for speed but you have some power there, if you can adjust the beater where its 'taller' youll see you hit harder due to momentum. now still using the same idea as heel down, take your heel just a hair up off the foot plate and use the same 'heel down' motion. dont try to fly just take it slow, think 'dribbling' the pedals. dont tense and keep it even. also try and use your hip flexors to get some added power on the down. listen to george when he says you will have different leg and ankle motions depending on speed. im no pro but i hope this helps. cant wait for the vid's george!

hey solace bravo!Man,i use just the same thing to play fast, cause that's the ankle motion(George's level 3) and it helps you a lot with the fast tempos! If i understand what u say is like basketballing with your feet right?Like George says the goal is to try and get that beater motion,so that we get power! That's tough indeed, cause the leg is lifted a bit and i personally in some cases, for some seconds, feel a bit tensed under my knee ,but this ''air Kollias ankle development''needs a lot of work!

Hey solace,i just came from Derek's forum, where i posted a reply to your thread!
Do u mean that u tried to swivel and instead of swivelling,it turned out that your foot/feet did this thing we mentioned?
Personally,i find it extremely hard to swivel while i use raw ankle motion and the beater hits from a good distance, but i think patience is the key while learning sth new, right?

thanks for the reply! basically when i was trying to go faster and push my limits my feet could go fast but they would do an extreme heel up like on my tip toes, which wasnt working, my toes were trying to play everything! it wasnt working and i had to figure out something. i had read about flatfoot, so one day i just said lets calm things down lets try to get a beat going so i did and i kept my heels about 2" above the footboard, worked great, as i sped up my feet again tried to go into the extreme heel up, so i tried just to swivel my ankles just to kinda give them something else to do i guess. so now its like it opened that side of my mind, now i can keep my feet more calm and still play fast and even without all the tensing. probably wont work for everyone but it did for me. i like it!
basically my right foor swivels little to none, i cant even make it really. but the left i can make it do whatever. im just trying to play calmly and consistantly. check out my drummer diary in roddy's forum.

ok man,i'll see it!Haha, the same has happened to me,as far as the development of the foot technique's concerned! But i firstly saw BEHEMOTH's Conquer All video and after watching the part at the beginning which shows Inferno's feet countless times,i memorised the scenes and applied them on me+said that to my teacher and THEN i learned about the flatfoot! So,i have to say a big THANK YOU to Inferno, cause without knowing it,he helped me tremendously! And then came the sickest extreme drummer:George with all his help!!!
I guess we probably play in a similar way!

OT: I saw a video of inferno and he was playing so soft that I was super-disappointed. If you turn the triggers off...he is over....
I'm so sad he was one of the greatest for me.
