drum heads

george-
hope all is well. a question regarding drum heads. do you prefer clear to coated and if so why is that? seems like coated heads are popular in extreme drumming. what heads do you use on your kick drums and how tight are they?
thanks. hope the video shoot went well

I use clear heads on everything except my snares.I don't think there are many drummers that use coated heads on toms in metal, the usually have so much overtones and they sound so dry too.I prefer clear single ply (thick) tom/floor tom heads for my Gabriels, they have a great tone and the warmness i need.
As for the kicks,i use the Superkicks or Powerstroke3 with the less muffling possible and on a medium/loose tension.I don't care so much about the tightness as much i care about the sound, cause i may trigger live but i can still hear the kicks.

Is it the single ply heads that give a more beefy tone?

I realised your sound is alot beefier than my kit. Not that I want to caompare my kit to yours in any way, but I play Tama Starclassic birch with deep toms. I've got the Evans genera 2 on the toms (top) & the genera 1 on the bottoms.

Is the tension on the top & bottom heads more or less equal?

I really want to get a deeper fuller sound on my drums.

I s there going to be a part about tuning in your DVD?

Jacques
