What is a "flam slam" ? I know what a flam is... I don't know how a flam could improve your bassdrum sound or anything.

Flam's on the feet are ridiculous..Thomas Lang and his flamrudiments he does on his feet are insane!

flam slams are wee hard pads you stick on your bass head. they increase the durablility but also can give the sound a bit more slap or click, depending on the product.

here's two of the wee guys...

haha falam not flam. I think they are made out of kevlar to protect your head so that it lasts longer, but the sound difference is minimal IMO. I use them.

They give a bit more attack, I have them on both of my bassdrums, I love the sound of my acoustic bassdrums, but for fast playing it doesn't matter anyway because I trigger my bassdrums.
I only use them if I play rock, if I play any other music type, I use clear heads without the falam slams, and if I play metal as I said, I trigger them.

But for what you say I recommend you get them. As Angra says, they also make you bassdrums last longer

Also check out the Gibraltar click pads. It's made from a hard plastic & give you a little clearer sound as compared to the falam slams. You do not have that solid punch as with the falam slams, but you have to sacrifice someting if you want to have a more clicky sound.

I use the Click pad with the Iron cobra rubber beaters & with a bit of tuning you can still achieve a solid punch, but with a little 'cleaner' sounding strokes.

i think these falam slams are important for hard hitters, that the bassdrumhead doesnt get destroyed, and of course for the players who use rubberbeaters, that they dont "glue" on the head, thats important, i know this problem ;-). and of course the have a certain influence to the sound, but thats not much. there also exists a falam slam made from aluminium, that gives a hard "click", its by danmar i think, but dont know.
