Pedal Settings

So i just got Al-2 Longboards and im having setup problems.

i maxed out the springs and the beater distance is around 18 cm's but the VDL is killin me.

when I have a lot of beater distance i can do stage three drumming easily, but stage two drumming is so hard with all the bounce from the pedal.

when i shorten the beater distance, i have the exact opposite problem.

any suggestions???

Well I'll suggest that you turn down your springs a bit for the start cause the Axis pedals's springs are waaayyy tighter than any other pedals. You can turn them up by 1 turn every week till you are at full tilt once again.

About the VDL.... try it out more or less in the middle at first & once you get used to it go forward with it to about 3/4 of the way & try it for a week or 2 & then change to 1/4 of the way & see which of the 2 you prefer the best. Hope this explains what you guys are asking.

Stage 2, 3? stage 2 being leg/ankle & stage 3 being only ankes? You need serious power in your ankles to do astroke on the Axis A pedals with the VDL all the way close to you & obiously alot less effort makes the hit when the VDL is all the way forward & makes ankle only hits easier. Again you can start all the way forward & move the VDL backwards by 1mm per week till you get "the-right-feel" for your style.

I'm not all the way there yet, but still digging-hehe

Good luck.

Jacques

fuck man..at one point i had VDL all the way down, AND max spring tention hahahaahaha NO FUCKIN WAY hahahah ....they were gonna throw me up in the air fuck.....now VDL is about 1 CM up form the bottom and im good like that....but i dont think the pedal is the problem with my STAGE 2...its just me...when i learned double bass i jumped right into the FAST stuff of stage 3...that is what fucked me up most...so now i cant really do stage 2 with any pedal...I SUCK!!!!!!!!!

Haha. I had to go back from 180 to about 140bpm when I changed from my old Tama camco to my Iron Cobras. That was fuckin irritating & I did it untill it was tighter that a nun's fanny. Then I moved up a bit & I got frustrated alot & tried to do the faster stuff almost straight away & I fucked up of course. So I went slowly, but surely up the ladder.

When I reached stage 2 it was a bit harder for me to do the strokes & my shins started burnig heavily. I was stuck on the 190-200bpm for a looonnnggg time & it suddenly happened to me that I got faster & within 2 months or so (without practising as much as I should) I went up to where I'm now. I'm inspired to hit 250bpm before I turn 28 (on the 19th of may)

Luckilly I did the stage 1 first & then stage 2 & now I'm getting stage 3 down. I hit 234bpm last night so I'm very proud of myself. (250+bpm would have been waayy better of course)

Danny Brit once said something that I try to remember whenever I want to go faster than I can without having the technique + the idea down.

" The SLOWER you go the FASTER you'll learn"

Remember this & I promise you it will help when you try to push too far into untapped valleys...

I had that problem, but then I switched back to heel down! My VDL is all the way back, and my beaters are all the way out!
